On behalf of the Alberta Cancer Foundation, I am pleased to advise you on the success of the First Annual Cruising for Cancer, Caring for Yourself cruise with Harvest Hills CruiseShipCenters and Carnival Cruise Lines. We recently completed the 7-day Western Caribbean Cruise from Galveston.
It was an absolute pleasure working with Julie Toft & Lisa Lange at the Harvest Hill CruiseShipCentre. When we were approached with the idea to do a fundraising cruise, we were presented with a different approach to fundraising that we were not aware of prior to this opportunity. Meeting with Nadine Schorn of Carnival Cruise Lines helped with understanding how this could become a reality and an excellent opportunity to partner with the Carnival Foundation. We were kept informed of all the details and progress of the event at all times. Julie, Lisa and Nadine were all wonderful resources to the many guests that had never cruised before. They were always ready and willing to assist our guests.
In the original plan, Stephen Ames had meant to cruise along for the cure and Carnival was willing to make all necessary arrangements to accommodate our golfers. Unfortunately, our golf pro Stephen Ames was unable to make the cruise. Carnival hosted the Bon Voyage party with Stephen, giving us a chance to meet him, wish him well in China, and meet the other cruisers.
As the cruise was about Caring for Yourself, on board we attended informational seminars presented by Doctors, Researchers and a Psychologist, coordinated through Julie and Lisa. For fun, we had a session in beading an evening bag. Once again, Carnival provided us with great meeting space and any audio/electronic needs.
